Yeongmosa Temple, Chungju
충주 영모사 · 忠州 永慕祠

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a shrine enshrining the spirit tablets of Choe Seung, the founding ancestor of the Chungju Choe clan, and eight of his ancestors. In 846, the 8th year of King Munseong of Silla, when a famine led to a rise in banditry, Choe Seung, acting on the order of Emperor Wuzong of China's Tang dynasty, suppressed them by force. He also quelled a rebellion that broke out in 889, the 3rd year of Queen Jinseong of Unified Silla. Yeongmosa faces south, and the gate at its front is a sotdaemun, a gate with a raised central section; it also has a sindobi, a memorial stele recording Choe Seung's achievements during his lifetime, and a stone bridge.
