This building enshrines the spirit tablet of Kim Jeong (1486–1521), pen name Chungam, who served as Minister of Justice (Hyeongjo panseo) and as Jemhak of the Office of Royal Decrees (Yemun-gwan) during the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon. Together with Jo Gwang-jo, he strove to realise an ideal of virtuous government, working to eradicate superstition and promote mutual aid within local communities, and made great contributions to the nationwide spread of local community compacts (hyangyak). During the Gimyo Purge of Literati in 1519, the fourteenth year of King Jungjong, he was imprisoned along with Jo Gwang-jo and others, exiled to Geumsan, and later put to death by royal decree of poison in Jeju. The building and grave, originally located in Naetap-ri, Dong-myeon, Daedeok-gu, were relocated to Sinha-dong, Dong-gu, in 1978. Inside the building are a sindobi (a stele erected by a roadside near a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official), built in 1641, the nineteenth year of King Injo; a shrine housing the spirit tablet; and a jeongnyeogak, a monument commending the exemplary virtue of his wife.
