Songdamjae Hall is a shrine dedicated to Jeong Gyeong (pen name Yuljae, 1490–1564), built by his descendants. Jeong Gyeong was a military official during the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon, known throughout the region for his deep filial piety and incorruptibility. The building collapsed during the Japanese invasions of 1592–1598 and was rebuilt in 1790, the fourteenth year of King Jeongjo; in the 1970s the eaves were handsomely refurbished. It measures four kan across the front and two kan along the side, with a hip-and-gable (paljak) roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. Rooms are arranged to either side of a central wooden-floored hall (daecheongmaru), comprising a room, kitchen, floor hall, side room, and side-room kitchen.
