Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a rock standing above the shrine to Jo Heon in Goknam-ri village. The village is said to be a place where Jo Heon, also known by his pen name Jungbong (1544-1592), once stayed for a time; during the Imjin War he led seven hundred righteous-army soldiers and defeated large numbers of Japanese invaders in the Geumsan area. On the broad, outward-sloping face of the rock, the characters for 'Susimdae' have been carved in a bold, vigorous hand, and the rock is encircled by pine trees. The name Susimdae was given by Jo Heon himself, and the characters were carved by Song Si-yeol. In the past, a clear stream is said to have flowed around this spot, forming a fine scenic view.
