Yongyeonsa Temple Three-story Stone Pagoda
용연사삼층석탑 · 龍淵寺三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda stands in front of the Geungnakjeon Hall of Yongyeonsa Temple, consisting of a three-storey body set on a single-tier base. The base stone has been repaired in later times with new stone, and the corners of the base and of each storey's body are carved to resemble pillars. The roof stones have a short slope and thin eaves, while the four-tiered supports carved into their undersides are comparatively tall. At 2.6 m, the pagoda is rather small for the grand scale of the Geungnakjeon Hall, giving an impression that the two do not entirely harmonise. Overall the pagoda follows the stone pagoda style of Unified Silla, but the reduction of the base to a single tier and the change in the carving style of the roof stones suggest that it was in fact erected during the Goryeo dynasty.
