This is the house where Song Si-yeol (1607-1689) lived while pursuing his scholarly studies. A Confucian academy, Hancheonseowon, was later built here to hold memorial rites for him, but in the fifth year of Emperor Gojong's reign (1868) the academy was demolished; it was afterwards rebuilt by later generations of his followers. It measures three bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof that, seen from the side, takes the shape of the character 八 (eight). There is a wooden-floored hall at the centre, with ondol-heated rooms at either end. A wall surrounds the building, with a gate at the front, and gingko trees stand on both sides of the front.
