Giseonggwan Hall
기성관 · 杞城館

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building is where officials of Jinjam County administered county affairs during the Joseon dynasty. It is said that, besides Giseonggwan itself, many other buildings once stood here: the Guest House (gaeksa), where royal tablets representing the king were enshrined and officials bowed toward the palace on the first and fifteenth days of each month; the naea, the magistrate's residential quarters; the dongheon, where the local magistrate handled administrative affairs; and an armoury for storing weapons. Giseonggwan originally stood in Gyochon-dong, but is said to have been moved to its present site and rebuilt around 1934. It measures four bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hip-and-gable (paljak) roof shaped like the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. The gongpo, the decorative bracket sets supporting the eaves, are simply constructed. Giseonggwan is important material for examining the appearance of Joseon-period government office architecture in the Daejeon region.
