괴산 채운암 대웅전 · 槐山 彩雲庵 大雄殿

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krChaeunam was a hermitage founded in 1277, the third year of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo, by Seon master Doil. It was rebuilt in 1619, the second year of King Gwanghaegun, by Seon master Hyesik, who gave it its present name, Chaeunam. In 1655, the fourth year of King Hyojong, Seon master Hyeil built Ukjangsa Temple on the present site, but most of its buildings were burned down during an invasion by Japanese troops towards the end of the Korean Empire, and Chaeunam was further destroyed in a great flood in 1948. In 1949, part of the surviving monks' quarters was moved to the present site and has since been known as Chaeunam. Enshrined inside Daeungjeon Hall of Chaeunam is a wooden seated Buddha statue (a Chungcheongbuk-do Tangible Cultural Heritage).
