King Seonjo Royal Letter Pavilion, Gimhae
김해 선조어서각 · 金海 宜祖御書閣

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the danso, a memorial altar erected for someone whose remains could not be recovered for burial, of General Gwon Tak; it was built in 1836 by his descendants to preserve a royal letter written in Hangeul that had been sent down to him during fierce fighting with Japanese forces. The building preserves a royal edict stating that even subjects who had been coerced into serving the Japanese army would not be held guilty once they returned to their own hometowns, and that a reward would be given to anyone who brought out many people still in hiding. The building itself is a single-bay, gabled-roof wooden tile-roofed structure. Having fallen into disrepair through poor maintenance, it was relocated to its present site and restored in April 1989, at which time it was extended together with Hyeonchungsa Shrine and given a fresh renovation.
