This is a lecture hall built to honour the achievements of past generations and to serve as a space for their descendants' studies. Mouidang was built in 1725, the first year of King Yeongjo of Joseon, by the descendants of Hoebong-gong Bae Hu-do, who named it Donhwajae. It was moved to its present site in 1815, the 15th year of King Sunjo, and its name was changed to Moui in 1852, the third year of King Cheoljong. The name Mouidang was given to it in 1856. The present building dates from 1899 and has since been rebuilt twice. It measures four and a half bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hip-and-gable roof that, seen from the side, resembles the character for 'eight.' Centred on the main wooden-floored hall, there is a raised loft room to the right and two ondol-heated rooms to the left. Mouidang is well preserved, and because its architectural style shares features with village schools, it provides valuable material for research into village-school architecture.
