Banghojeong is a pavilion built in 1930 by local scholars as a place to console themselves by composing poetry during the bleak circumstances of the Japanese colonial period. It measures three bays across the front and three bays in depth; the central bay has an ondol (heated-floor) room, with wooden floors laid on either side. Balustrades surround three sides, all but the rear. It is situated in a scenic spot in a valley of Jirisan Mountain and takes the typical form of a Korean pavilion.
