This is a Confucian academy (seowon) built to honour three distinguished officials of the Goryeo dynasty: Yuk Ryeo, Im Ok-san and Bak I-hang. It was established in 1789, the 13th year of King Jeongjo of Joseon, and the tablets of Bak I-gyeom and Kim Seol were later added for commemoration, in 1798 (Jeongjo 22) and 1799 (Jeongjo 23) respectively. It was closed in 1868, the fifth year of Emperor Gojong, under Heungseon Daewongun's order abolishing Confucian academies; thereafter his descendants built an altar and continued only ancestral rites, until the academy was rebuilt in 1958. The buildings now standing within the academy include Ulheungjae, the lecture hall; Apgyesa, the shrine; and the inner and outer three-bay gates (naesammun and oesammun). Apgyesa enshrines the spirit tablets of five men, and rites are held every year in the third month.
