Gwandongmyoryeo
관동묘려 · 寬洞墓廬

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a jaesil, a house built beside a grave for conducting memorial rites, raised next to the grave of Lady Yu, mother of Song Yu (pen name Ssangcheongdang, 1389–1446), who had been honoured with a yeolyeomun, a gate commemorating a virtuous woman. She died in 1452, the second year of King Munjong, at the age of 82, and funeral rites were held here before the jaesil was built beside her grave. The L-shaped jaesil has rooms of two bays each attached on both sides, under a hipped-and-gabled roof that resembles the Chinese character for "eight" when viewed from the side. At the centre of the jaesil is a large wooden floor flanked on the left and right by the main bedroom and the guest room, and beside the main bedroom is a two-bay kitchen. Hanging in the centre of the large floor is a plaque reading "Gwandongmyoryeo" (寬洞墓廬), and a further plaque on the side, reading "Sungjeong-giwonhu" (崇禎紀元後), shows that the building was rebuilt in 1894, the 31st year of Emperor Gojong.
