Donghwasa Temple Jugamdangdaeseonsaseonchal Portrait

This work represents the portraits of Seon (Zen) masters produced in the late Joseon period: the face is depicted with warmth and realism, and the overall colour tone is calm and well balanced. Although it ranks below the Portrait of State Preceptor Bojo, it is a fine work capable of representing its era. Though painted at the very end of the Joseon dynasty, this portrait is an accomplished work that preserves well the stylistic characteristics of its time.
