This house was built in 1653, the fourth year of King Hyojong of Joseon, by Song Si-yeol (1607-1689), known by his pen name Uam. Song Si-yeol was a civil official and scholar of the late Joseon period, and is known to have lived in this house until 1661, the seventh year of King Hyeonjong, when he was fifty-five. Today, no surrounding wall survives, and only a single U-shaped building remains. Of the three central bays, a wooden-floored hall occupies the left two bays, while the remaining one bay is fitted out as a side room. To the left of the hall are the main room, an upper room and the kitchen, and to the right of the side room are two rooms and a kitchen. The roof over the central section is a hip-and-gable roof, which viewed from the side resembles the character 八 (eight); the roofs of the wings on either side are gable roofs, whose side profile resembles the character 人 (person). Having been built a long time ago and used continuously as a family home, the house is not in the best state of preservation, but amid a neighbourhood now largely built up with Western-style houses, it retains an antique character.
