Eunjeogam Hermitage
은적암 · 隱寂庵

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krEunjeogam is a hermitage founded in 1195, the twenty-fifth year of King Myeongjong of Goryeo, by State Preceptor Bojo. The buildings that survive today include Daeungjeon Hall, Gwanmyeongnu Pavilion and Chilseonggak Hall. Of these, Daeungjeon Hall has a hip-and-gable (paljak) roof when seen from the side, except on its right-hand side, where the roofline instead takes the shape of a gable (matbae) roof. The bracket sets made to support the eaves combine the jusimpo style, in which brackets are set only on the columns, with the ikgong style, shaped like a bird's wing. Gwanmyeongnu Pavilion measures three bays across the front and two bays in depth, with a gable roof, and a ridge-beam record documenting three rounds of repair, in 1618, the tenth year of King Gwanghaegun; in 1790, the fourteenth year of King Jeongjo; and in 1857, the eighth year of King Cheoljong, has been handed down. Among its relics are a painting behind the Buddha altar, a Seven Stars painting and a Mountain Spirit painting, all made in 1918.
