Songjeong is a pavilion built in 1679, the fifth year of King Sukjong, at the initiative of Jeogam Kim Tae-jung, to commemorate Pyoeun Kim Si-on (1598–1669). It was partly destroyed by fire in 1949 and repaired, then relocated to its present site in 1988 owing to the construction of Imha Dam. Pyoeun Kim Si-on raised a righteous army and was active during the Manchu invasion of 1636. Afterwards he gave up his official career, built Waryong Chodang, a thatched cottage, on Waryongsan Mountain, and devoted himself for more than 40 years to upholding his principles while teaching students. The building is a single-row (il-ja) structure, four bays wide and two bays deep, with a hip-and-gable (paljak) roof that forms the shape of the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. Inside hangs a wooden plaque reading "Waryong Chodang", written by Dongwon Kim Hui-su, who was renowned for his calligraphy.
