Pavilion Epitaph Tablet Tap, Namhae
남해 정지석탑 · 南海鄭池石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda, the Pavilion Epitaph Tablet Tap, Namhae, was erected to commemorate the victory of General Jeong Ji, who defeated Japanese pirate raiders at Gwaneumpo in 1383, the ninth year of King U of Goryeo; it was hewn and shaped by the local people of Namhae with their own hands. A large natural boulder serves as its base, on which the pagoda body is set. The body alternates four square body stones and one small round body stone with five roof stones, stacked in layers. Modest in appearance, the pagoda embodies the patriotic spirit of those who saved the Namhae region and its people from the Japanese pirates, lending it a solemn atmosphere.
