Daejeon Yeojung Lecture Hall
대전여중강당 · 大田女中講堂
Cultural Heritage MaterialColonial Period · 1937

Completed in 1937, the building is characterised by a soft Art Nouveau roofline reminiscent of a thatched roof. Beneath the eaves, bricks are laid in a classical dentil (tooth-shaped) pattern to support the eaveline, emphasising this softness. The side elevations are given character through cornerstone brick-laying techniques, and broad square windows, set in harmony with the roofline, allow good ventilation. The roof is finished in diamond-patterned net-form slate laid to suggest rippling waves, giving the whole building a lively effect.
