Daeboksa Temple is said to have been founded in 893, the seventh year of Queen Jinseong of Unified Silla, by State Preceptor Doseon in order to suppress the strong energy of the site of Namwon town. The temple was originally named Daegogam, but its name was changed to Daeboksa during the reign of King Cheoljong of Joseon. The temple precinct contains the Geungnakjeon Hall, the Chilseonggak Hall (a shrine to the Seven Stars), a meditation hall and monks' quarters, and the Geungnakjeon Hall was repaired during King Cheoljong's reign. The hall measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a gabled roof shaped like the character 人 when viewed from the side. Inside is enshrined an Amitabha Buddha, together with a painting of guardian spirits, an altar painting set behind the Buddha, and a painting of Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva.
