The Geumseongdae Pavilion Group Jedan, Cheongju, is the altar of Prince Geumseongdaegun Yi Yu (1426–1457), the sixth son of King Sejong the Great. He was born to King Sejong and Queen Soheon of the Sim clan, was said to be upright by nature, and was also renowned as a writer. He became implicated, along with Seong Sam-mun and the other 'six martyred ministers', in the movement to restore King Danjong to the throne, and was exiled to Sunheung, in present-day Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do. There, together with the magistrate of Sunheung, Yi Bo-heum, he plotted to restore King Danjong, but was arrested after being informed on by a government slave, and in October 1457 was ordered to take his own life. His name was cleared in 1528, the 23rd year of King Jungjong, and in 1739, the 15th year of King Yeongjo, he was granted the posthumous title Jeongmin-gong. The altar has the square, 'ㅁ'-shaped layout typical of Joseon-period altars. It stands to the left of the grave of his wife, Lady Choe of Jeonju, who held the title Wansanbu-buin; her grave is said to have been relocated by Hong Yang-jeong, a great-grandson of Geumseongdaegun through a collateral line. The altar is valued as rare evidence of the burial customs practised at the time it was built.
