Gongsanseong Fortress Gwangbongnu Pavilion
공산성광복루 · 公山城光復樓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pavilion was originally the gate of the Junggunyeong, the central military camp where troops were stationed within Gongsanseong Fortress, but after Korea's liberation it came to be called Gwangbongnu, meaning "Pavilion of the Restoration of the Nation's Light", in commemoration of the liberation of 15 August. It originally stood beside Gongbungnu, the northern gate of Gongsanseong Fortress; when it was moved to its present site it was called Ungsimgak. In 1946, Kim Ku and Yi Si-yeong are said to have visited this place, and the pavilion was renamed to commemorate the recovery of the nation. It is a two-storey pavilion three bays across the front and two bays deep, open on every side, with a staircase built on the left for going up and down. The roof is a hipped-and-gabled roof, shaped like the Chinese character for "eight" (八) when seen from the side.
