Gapsa Temple is said to have been first built in 420, the first year of King Guisin of Baekje, by the monk Ado, and rebuilt in 679, the nineteenth year of King Munmu of Unified Silla, by Uisang. It was subsequently repaired and expanded several times through the Goryeo and Joseon periods, down to the present day. Pyochungwon is a shrine built in 1738, the fourteenth year of King Yeongjo, to honour those who repelled the Japanese invaders during the Imjin War. Inside are enshrined the portraits of Master Seosan (Hyujeong), Master Samyeong (Yujeong), and Master Yeonggyu (pen name Giheodang).
