This house was built by the Joseon-period Confucian scholars Jeong Ho, pen-named Sujae (1837–1938), and Ryu Yeon-gu (1861–1938). Also known as "Sujae Gotaek" after Jeong Ho's pen name, the house was renovated in 1939 by the independence activist Ryu Dong-hwan (1885–1973) during the Japanese colonial period. It originally stood in Sugok-ri, Imdong-myeon, Andong, but was dismantled and rebuilt on its present site in 1987 because of the construction of Imha Dam.
