Hoegye Historic House, Gangneung
강릉 회계고택 · 江陵 晦溪古宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1919, the house's main hall (anchae) and men's quarters (sarangchae) together form a square, courtyard-enclosing layout, with an L-shaped gate house standing across the courtyard. The main hall is a gyeopjip, a house built in two parallel rows of rooms, front and back: the front row places a kitchen and a side room around the master bedroom (anbang), while the back row contains a small inner room, a rear room and an upper room. The wooden-floored room at the front has since been converted into an ondol room with underfloor heating, and the master bedroom has been enlarged by absorbing the side room into it. The men's quarters have a narrow wooden veranda, or toenmaru, along the front and side.
