This building was constructed in the 1680s by Yu Ik-hwi (1629–1698) for studying scholarship and training younger students. Mallyeong Yu Ik-hwi had a deep interest in scholarship from an early age and was exceptionally filial. After his death he was posthumously granted the official rank of Tonghun Daebu Sabok Sijeong, and his writings include the Mallyeong Sigo. It originally stood in Maryeong-ri, Imdong-myeon, Andong, and was relocated to its present site in 1987 owing to the construction of Imha Dam.
