Cheongnyongsa Temple Three-story Stone Pagoda
청룡사삼층석탑 · 靑龍寺三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a granite stone pagoda standing in the front yard of the Daeungjeon Hall of Cheongnyongsa Temple, made up of a three-storey body set on a single-tier base. The Three-story Stone Pagoda of Cheongnyongsa Temple has its single-tier base set at the centre of a pagoda precinct marked out with long rectangular stones, supporting the three-storey body, and stands 2.38 m tall. On a base stone made of two pieces, a three-tiered moulding with an angled-arc-angled profile is carved. The body-stone facing is made up of four slabs, each face bearing carved corner pillars and a central pillar. The capstone of the base, formed from a single slab, slopes on its underside and has a three-tiered moulding carved into its upper surface. The body stones and roof stones of each storey are each made from a single piece of stone, and corner pillars are neatly carved in relief on every face of the body. Compared with the first storey, the height decreases sharply at the second, showing a certain imbalance in proportion. The roof stones slope steeply before curving up slightly at the corners, giving a light, buoyant feel, with clearly defined ridge lines. Although the finial is missing and there is some damage, the pagoda reflects the stone pagoda style of the late Goryeo period and is a valuable record of it.
