Dongamjeong Pavilion was built by Yu Jang-won (1724–1796), a scholar of the mid-Joseon period, as a place to study and teach his disciples. Yu Jang-won was a scholar active under King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo, with deep learning in the Confucian classics and Neo-Confucianism. He passed the lower civil service examination (samasi) in 1763, the 39th year of King Yeongjo's reign, and in his later years studied under Yi Sang-jeong, known by his pen name Daesan, leaving behind many writings including the Sangbyeon tonggo. The building measures three bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof shaped like the figure-eight character when viewed from the side. It originally stood at Sugok-ri in Andong, but was moved to its present site in 1987 owing to the construction of Imha Dam.
