This is a seated stone Buddha enshrined in Mireukjeon Hall of Deogeumam Hermitage, in Noam-dong, Namwon. On the head is a large topknot-shaped bun of hair, and the long face has a stiff, rigid expression. The neck bears the three carved folds known as samdo, the shoulders are rendered at right angles, and the body, falling in a vertical line, shows a similarly stiff, formalised treatment. The left hand, resting on the knee, holds a medicine jar, while the right hand hangs down below the knee with its fingertips pointing towards the ground. The pedestal has an unusual form, with a square middle stone set on a lower stone carved with lotus designs. The halo representing the light radiating from the Buddha's body was carved from a separate stone; the large head halo has had its upper part cut away, and its border is decorated with a vine-scroll pattern.
