The Choe Jae-geun House in Chuncheon was built in 1917, with an L-shaped main wing (anchae) and an L-shaped outer wing (sarangchae) arranged together to form an overall square plan enclosing a courtyard. The roof of the main wing is a hip-and-gable roof, forming a shape like the Chinese character for "eight" when viewed from the side. Centred on the daecheong, the wooden-floored central hall, the rooms to the left comprise an utbang (upper room), the anbang (main bedroom) and the kitchen, while to the right is the geonneonbang (room across the hall). The house has now been remodelled for more convenient modern living: the kitchen has been converted to a standing-style kitchen, and the wall between the anbang and the utbang, along with the outer toenmaru (narrow wooden porch), have been removed to enlarge the rooms. In the sarangchae, to the left of the gate are an ox shed, a storeroom and a room, and to the right are a kitchen, a room and a storeroom; the left-hand section is built with a samnyang (three-purlin) roof-frame structure, while the right-hand section uses a pyeongsaryang (flat-rafter) structure.
