Gwiraejeong Pavilion
귀래정 · 歸來亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGwiraejeong is a pavilion built in 1456, the second year of King Sejo of Joseon, by Sin Mal-ju, the younger brother of Sin Suk-ju; the building now standing was rebuilt in 1974. When Grand Prince Suyang (King Sejo) deposed his nephew King Danjong and took the throne, Sin Mal-ju, upholding the principle of not serving two kings, resigned his post and retired to Sunchang. The building measures three kan across the front and two kan along the side, and its roof is a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof, which forms the shape of the character for 'eight' when viewed from the side. Inside, it preserves a record of Gwiraejeong written by Seo Geo-jeong and poems by Gang Hui-maeng.
