This is a square-plan house built around a central courtyard, comprising a main hall (anchae), a men's quarters (sarangchae) and a storehouse; it was built in 1903 by Eom Geun-ho, a wealthy man from Seoseok, who lived there for forty-five years. In the plan of the anchae, a kitchen storeroom is placed at the front, centred on the kitchen, while at the rear is a main room with a narrow wooden veranda (toenmaru). Beside it are a wooden-floored hall (daecheong) and a side room. The gates giving access to the anchae and the sarangchae are kept separate, and a wall was even built across the narrow inner courtyard between them, so as to divide the spaces used by men and women. The anchae and sarangchae originally had thatched roofs, which were replaced with slate and galvanised sheet metal in the 1970s. This is a spacious, generously built house that shows the house type commonly found in the Yeongseo and central regions.
