Namyangsa Temple Site Three-story Stone Pagoda
남양사지삼층석탑 · 南陽寺址三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis three-story stone pagoda stands at a site traditionally said to be that of Namyangsa Temple. A three-story body was raised on a single-tier base, with corner pillars carved at the four corners of the base. The body stones and roof stones of the pagoda are each a single piece of stone, with corner pillars carved into each corner of the body stones. At the top, an elongated bokbal (an ornament shaped like an upturned bowl) sits above the noban (the base of the crowning ornament). Judging from features such as the marked reduction in size of the second-storey body stone compared with the first, the omission of the carved central pillar on the base, and the horizontal line of the roof-stone eaves, the pagoda is presumed to have been built in the late Unified Silla period. The base is now badly damaged and has been bound together with wire.
