This building is the jaesil (ancestral memorial hall) of Kim Ho, magistrate of Pyeongtaek and fourth-generation descendant of Kim Jang-yu, Minister of the Board of Taxation, of the Gyeongju Kim clan. It stands facing south at the entrance to a village on the boundary between Hoenam-myeon, Boeun-gun, and Munui-myeon, Cheongwon-gun, with a hill (259m) behind it. According to repair records and genealogical registers, the building was constructed around the 17th century; during repairs in 2009 a roof tile was found bearing the inscription "made in the third month of the gyeyu year, the thirty-second year of Kangxi, by tile-makers Kim Yeon-rin, O Seon-i, Kim Gwi-beom and Kim Hae-sin," suggesting that it was built around 1694. A board bearing a record of the repair of the jaesa, written in 1889, the 26th year of Emperor Gojong, by the descendant Kim In-tae, hangs inside. The building has single eaves and a hipped-and-gabled roof, four bays across the front and two bays deep, arranged from left to right as a room, a timber-floored hall (daecheong), another room, and a kitchen. With the steep hill behind it, a high platform was built at the front to create level ground; natural, unhewn stones were laid as footings, with square pillars set on them, except at the front of the daecheong, where round pillars were used. Below the lower crossbeams, red brick has been laid and other alterations made, but the floor plan retains its original form, and the thickness of the timbers and the carpentry techniques used show the archaic methods of the late Joseon period in their detail. Gohyeonjae preserves the original form of a jaesil of the Boeun area: the inscribed roof tile found during repairs, the repair records and the clan's own records are all well preserved, and the timber-framing and carpentry clearly display archaic techniques. Adze marks are also clearly visible on the pillars and other timbers, revealing the tools used at the time, and thick wooden pegs were used, adding further character to the building. Kim Ho (dates unknown) was the son of Kim Eul-sik, Director of the Office of Munitions, and great-grandson of Kim Jang-yu, Minister of the Board of Taxation, both of the Gyeongju Kim clan; he held the saengwon licentiate degree and served as magistrate of Pyeongtaek.
