Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krWhen the Eulsa Purge, a political purge of scholar-officials, broke out in 1545, the year King Myeongjong acceded to the throne, the scholar Kim In-hu, known by his pen name Haseo, resigned his official post and withdrew from the world to live here in seclusion. Kim In-hu is said to have especially loved the mountain scenery around Nakdeogam, and while he enjoyed nature he also taught Neo-Confucianism to later generations. In 1900, the fourth year of Emperor Gojong, following a prophecy by Kim No-su that outstanding talents would emerge from this place in later years, a pavilion was built atop Nakdeogam, and it stands to this day.
