This is the house of Ham Jeong-gyun of Goseong, presumed to have been built in the mid-19th century. The village is a clan settlement of the Gangneung Choe and Ham clans, and Ham Jeong-gyun, the present owner, is the twenty-first generation of his family to live here. The house measures four bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. The floor plan has a two-bay wooden floor at the front with the main bedroom behind it, and a men's quarters (sarangbang) and storeroom (gobang) to the side — a layout typical of the northern Yeongdong region. The detached men's quarters to the right of the main house has a firebox at the side of the sarangbang. The wall between the storeroom and the sarangbang has also been extended outward and roofed over to serve as a shed. The main house is L-shaped, with a narrow wooden porch at the rear, and is notable for having a wooden rice chest set into its wood-floored hall. A cool mountain stream flows in front of the house, surrounded by five peaks.
