Yakcheonjeong Pavilion

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYakcheonjeong Pavilion is the pavilion of Yakcheon Geum Hui-seong, built by his descendants some hundred years ago. Geum Hui-seong excelled in the Confucian classics and in literary composition, and devoted himself for many years at Oksan-seodang, a village school, to training younger scholars. Except where the steps are, the pavilion is enclosed on all four sides by a balustrade; the front and the central section are wooden-floored, with a room on each side. Inside, the pavilion preserves records of its own history, including the Yakcheonjunggi written by Jeong Gi-hoe and the Jeongsa Junggeon-gi written by Yi Yu-seung, together with wooden plaques inscribed in the hand of Yi Si-yeong, Korea's first vice president, reading "Yakcheonjeong" and "Bangokjeongsa." Within the grounds a single Chinese juniper has grown into the shape of a straw hat, and the old pine trees surrounding it lend the scene an added touch of elegance.
