거창 일원정 · 居昌 一源亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIrwonjeong is a pavilion built in 1905 by the descendants of Kim Suk-ja of the Seonsan Kim clan, together with Confucian scholars, and it served not only as a place for personal moral cultivation but also as a seowon, a Confucian academy for nurturing talented individuals. The main building, Irwonjeong, measures four bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a narrow wooden porch at the front. The roof is a hip-and-gable roof, forming the shape of the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. At Irwonjeong, memorial rites are held for the Seven Worthies who shared the same roots in Neo-Confucianism: Jeong Mong-ju, Giljae, Kim Suk-ja, Kim Jong-jik, Kim Goeng-pil, Jeong Yeo-chang and Jo Gwang-jo.
