Stupa and Stupa Stele in Jungchon-ri, Hapcheon
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

These are steles and stupas scattered through the village of Jungchon-ri, eleven in all. The steles stand with an elongated stele body set on a low square base, the top edge of each stele shaped into a rounded curve. The stupas, which enshrine the sari (relics) of monks, have a bell-shaped body set on a low base; some are topped with a bud-shaped finial, while others carry a roof stone. Among them is also the stupa stele of Great Master Bongam. This is the only stele to have remained in its original position; the rest of the remains are said to have been gathered here from various places after the stupa field in this area was cleared and turned into paddy and dry fields.
