Gangneung Choe Seon-pyeong House
강릉최선평가옥 · 江陵崔善平家屋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Gangneung Choe Seon-pyeong House has a square floor plan, divided by the main gate into an inner section (anchae) and a men's section (sarangchae). The anchae measures four bays across the front and two bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the character for "eight" when viewed from the side. A kitchen is placed on the right side, in front of which a storeroom and a cattle shed were built one step lower. The sarangchae is likewise roofed with a hip-and-gable roof; a small gatekeeper's room was placed beside the main gate, with a two-bay reception room and a wooden-floored room arranged to its left. Behind the wooden-floored room, a room and a storeroom are connected, enclosing the inner courtyard. The anchae and sarangchae are estimated to have been built around eighty years ago.
