This pagoda stands in the front yard of a small hermitage called Hwaamsa Temple, where traces of the original temple are now hard to find. Restored at the time the hermitage was built, the pagoda has lost many of its parts and is losing its original form. At present a flat square stone, apparently part of the base (gidan), sits at the bottom, with the first-story body stone of the pagoda placed on top of it, and four roof stones stacked above that; since one further roof stone remains nearby, the pagoda is thought originally to have had five stories. Even the surviving first-story body stone has had about a third of it cut away, leaving the whole structure at risk of collapse. The roof stones have four-tiered supports on their undersides, and the eaves run level before curving gently upward at the two ends. Judging from the form of the roof stones and the overall composition of the pagoda, it is presumed to have been built in the early Goryeo period.
