Ori Yi Won-ik Head House is the house that King Injo granted to Yi Won-ik (pen name Ori), who served as chief state councillor under Kings Seonjo and Injo and was renowned as a cheongbaekri, an official honoured for incorruptibility. When King Injo learned that the house of Yi Won-ik, who had long served as a state councillor, was a thatched cottage that leaked when it rained, he felt for him and in 1630, the eighth year of King Injo, granted him a new house, naming it Gwangamdang Hall. The name Gwangamdang means a place meant 'to be seen and felt', referring to Yi Won-ik's upright and frugal life. Gwangamdang Hall was built on a high stone platform, with a frontage of five bays and a depth of one and a half bays. At the centre is a two-bay daecheong (open wooden-floored hall), flanked by a two-bay ondol (heated-floor) room on the left and a one-bay ondol room on the right. Set on a high platform and covered with a paljak (hipped-and-gabled) roof whose eaves and rafters extend on all four sides, the building is restrained yet reveals its owner's status. Although it is not the original seventeenth-century house, it preserves well the form of a Gyeonggi-do dwelling, and the timber-finishing techniques of the early twentieth century give it further value. The head house stands to the right of Gwangamdang Hall, facing south. An L-shaped main hall (anchae) and an L-shaped gate quarters (munganchae) are arranged around a central courtyard to form an overall square layout. The main hall, built in 1917, has thirteen and a half bays and shows the characteristics of a Gyeonggi-do dwelling. The fine work of its carpenters can be seen in the smoke vent of the kitchen and the latticed window of the attic; the gate quarters was built in 1940.
