Jungnimsa Temple Geungnakbojeon Hall
죽림사극락보전 · 竹林寺極樂寶殿

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJungnimsa Temple is said to have been founded by the monk Ado around 440, the 24th year of King Biyu of Baekje, though this is not certain. However, judging from the sari (Buddhist relics) and the bronze Buddha head found at the site, it can be presumed to date from the Unified Silla period or earlier. The temple today comprises the Geungnakbojeon Hall, Yeongsanjeon Hall, Cheonghyanggak and Samseongjeon Hall. The Geungnakbojeon Hall is three bays wide and one bay deep, with a matbae (gabled) roof that, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 人 (person). The brackets decorating and supporting the eaves are in the jusimpo style, placed only on top of the columns. The ceiling inside the hall is a grid-patterned 'well' ceiling, concealing the structure above in a pattern resembling the character 井 (well), and it enshrines a statue of Amitabha Buddha.
