The Dongnae Jeong Clan Dongnae Gun Branch Head House in Gunpo is the head house of the clan, with a shrine enshrining the spirit tablet of its founding ancestor, Jeong Nan-jong, Lord of Dongnae (Dongnaebuwongun). It is known to have been built by Jeong Gwang-bo, son of Jeong Nan-jong, an early Joseon civil official, when he constructed his father's tomb. The head house has an L-shaped main women's quarters (anchae) at its centre, flanked by a larger and a smaller men's quarters (sarangchae), with a storehouse (gwangchae) to the south. To the north stands the shrine housing the ancestral spirit tablets, and further south, outside the compound, is a stable (mabangchae). With the family's living quarters at the centre and spaces for preparing ancestral rites and receiving guests arranged around it, the layout reveals the functional character of a clan head house. According to its ridge-beam inscription, the main quarters of the Dongnae Gun Branch head house were built in 1783, the seventh year of King Jeongjo, and the men's quarters are presumed to have been built in 1877, the fourteenth year of Emperor Gojong.
