Yongin Ijugukjanggun Historic House
용인이주국장군고택 · 龍仁李柱國將軍古宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the birthplace of General Yi Ju-guk (1721-1798), a military official who served during the reigns of King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo. Yi Ju-guk was born in 1721 in Munchon-ri, Wonsam-myeon, and played a major role in the defence of the capital. Around the historic house remain his tomb, a sindobi (a memorial stele recording the deceased's life, erected near a tomb), and the site of a pavilion; the tomb area is designated Local Heritage Site No. 4. The house consists of an anchae (main women's quarters), a sarangchae (men's quarters), and a haengnangchae (servants' quarters). An inscription on a roof tile of the anchae reads "Geollyung sipparyeon gyeyu il jojak", indicating that the house was built in 1753. The house retains classical features in the arrangement of its buildings, the division of space, and its landscaping techniques, and the way the slope behind the main building is managed, the terraced flowerbed is laid out, and the walls are constructed reflects the characteristics of a mid-Joseon-period upper-class house built in a rural village.
