Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGrand Prince Imyeong, Yi Gu (1420–1469), was the fourth son of King Sejong of Joseon. The burial ground is arranged around a shrine, with the tomb of Grand Prince Imyeong to its west and, to its east, the tomb of his wife, who held the title Jean-bubuin (a rank granted to the principal consort of a grand prince), Lady Choe. The tomb of Grand Prince Imyeong is built in three tiers marked off with long dressed stones: the burial mound occupies the uppermost tier, a stone lantern the middle tier, and a pair of civil-official stone statues the lowest. The lantern and statues are outstanding examples of royal tomb stonework from the late fifteenth century. The tomb of Lady Choe, Jean-bubuin, is divided into two tiers of dressed stone, with the mound on top and a stone lantern and civil-official statues below. The gravestone before her mound has a lotus-leaf-shaped head (hayeopsu) and was made in 1476; the lantern and statues are presumed to date from the same period. The shrine of Grand Prince Imyeong is a napdori-style timber building (using simple rounded roof beams), three bays wide and two bays deep, with an open porch bay at the front; behind it, partition walls divide the interior into three chambers. In the central bay stands a spirit-tablet shrine case holding the tablets of Grand Prince Imyeong and Lady Choe, Jean-bubuin, fronted by an offering table and an incense table. The side bays on either side are used to store ritual vessels and ritual robes.
