Subukjeong Pavilion was built during the reign of King Gwanghaegun of Joseon (1608–1623) by Kim Heung-guk (1557–1623), who had served as magistrate of Yangju and came to live here; it takes its name from Kim Heung-guk's pen name. The building has three bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a hip-and-gable roof (paljakjibung) that takes the shape of the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. The brackets supporting the eaves are carved in the ikgong style, a simplified Joseon bracket form shaped like a bird's wing. A wooden board inscribed with the Eight Scenic Views (palgyeong) poems by Sin Heum hangs inside. The pavilion stands above Jaondae, on the banks of the Baengmagang River in Buyeo, commanding an outstanding view and ranking among the Eight Scenic Views of Buyeo.
