Sauijeong Pavilion, Hapcheon

Cultural Heritage Material

This is a guest lodge built in 1922 by the Eunjin Song clan. It originally stood at Yujeon-ri, about 1 km southwest of its present site, but was relocated here in 1985 due to the construction of Hapcheon Dam. The building is a two-storey tiled-roof structure, four bays wide and three bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof (paljak roof) whose silhouette, seen from the side, resembles the Chinese character 八 (eight). Round columns were used throughout the pavilion, and railings were installed on all four sides. At the centre of the floor is an ondol (heated-floor) room two bays wide and one bay deep.
