Sinbin Sin Clan Burial Ground
신빈신씨묘역 · 信嬪辛氏墓域

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the burial ground of Royal Consort Sinbin, of the Sin clan (?–1435), a consort of King Taejong of Joseon. Sinbin's clan seat was Yeongsan (also recorded as Yeongwol), and her father was Sin Yeong-gwi, who held the honorary post of Third Counsellor of the Ministry of Works. Sinbin nursed King Taejong through his long illness, and after his death she became a Buddhist nun and, in his memory, hand-copied the Lotus Sutra (Beophwagyeong) in gold characters. When Sinbin died, King Sejong ordered a state expression of condolence and a memorial rite, had the funeral conducted by the government, and bestowed garments for the shrouding of the body. The burial ground is divided into two tiers by long dressed stones, with the burial mound, memorial stone and stone figure placed on the uppermost tier, and a stone lantern and civil official statue standing on the tier below. The mound is encircled by an octagonal retaining stone, and in front of it stands a memorial stone topped with a lotus-leaf-shaped head, erected in 1441. The stone lantern is in a form typical of the 15th century; the characters 信寧宮主 (Sinnyeong gungju), carved on the four faces of its middle platform, are a modern addition. The civil official statue is carved wearing an official's cap and formal court dress and holding a ceremonial tablet.
