Bangdong-ri Goguryeo Ancient Tomb
방동리고구려고분 · 芳洞里高句麗古墳

These are two tombs located south of the tomb of Sin Sung-gyeom, a founding meritorious subject of Goryeo. The interior of each is a stone-chamber tomb (seoksilmyo) built by stacking large and small broken stones, while the earthen mound that once covered the exterior has almost entirely been lost. The ceiling is a corbelled, truncated-corner ceiling (mojulim-sik, or makgak-jojeong ceiling), formed by building up the walls in three to four tiers while cutting back the corners at each stage, and finally capping the opening with a single large flat stone. The Bangdong-ri tombs represent a localised form of the late Goguryeo tomb style, and they are an important site showing that the Chuncheon region was still part of Goguryeo territory in the mid-sixth century, before Silla advanced northward.
